Eight years in Afghanistan
For eight years Mrs. Daly has lived continuously in the strange “closed land” of Afghanistan, acting as Medical Officer to the Government and Physician to the Queen. During this period she has had countless opportunities of gaining an insight into the inner life of the Afghans and their country—a land which is hard to get into and harder to get out of. Everywhere she went, Mrs. Daly was accompanied by an armed escort, and she has much to say concerning the perils and humours of her life in Kabul. For the last three years of her sojourn, she was the only white woman in Afghanistan.
