As I wrote a few years ago in my book “On Bouddha’s head”, the eyes of young Iranians lit up when I told them that I had spent several days in Iran in 1972, and they would say to me without batting an eyelid: “Ah, those days! That was the golden age.” ” I had to admit that in the 1970s, I was a fervent opponent of the Shah of Iran.
I hope they have forgiven me and that the Shah’s son will succeed in rallying all those who are fighting for a free and democratic Iran.

In the middle of all these women, on pages 118-121: “Anaïs Nin and Antonin Artaud” my article about the romantic relationship between the tormented Artaud and Anaïs Nin, a passionate and fascinating woman, famous for her diaries, her innovative work and her relationship with Henry Miller and his wife.

Artaud meets Beats

The 11th issue of Echo Antonin Artaud on “Artaud and Rock” has just been published:

On pages 62-67, my article on the relationship between Antonin Artaud and the Beat Generation, “Artaud meets Beats”, appears in the midst of a magnificent and fascinating publication.

Homage to Artaud and to the Beat Generation

An Homage to Artaud, Ginsberg, and Burroughs, and to all those who have very often been passed over in the history of the Beat Generation. An Homage to the Poets and Dreamers, to the Passeurs and Chercheurs, to the Lovers and the Madmen, to the Voyants and the Visionaries. An Homage to Carl Solomon and Gerd Stern, Anaïs Nin and André Breton, Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Maurice Girondias, Philip Lamantia and Brion Gysin, Leroi Jones and Bob Kaufman, Jean-Jacques Lebel and Claude Pélieu, to Ed Sanders and Patti Smith, and all the crazy people who dreamed (during) this time.

A trip through space and time, in search of Artaud’s spirit, in asylums and bars, deserts and cemeteries, from Big Sur to the Sierra Tarahumara, from the Théâtre du Vieux-Colombier in Paris to the Six Gallery in San Francisco, and from Paris’s Beat Hotel to New York’s Electric Lady Studio, where Patti Smith will record The Peyote Dance in 2019.

Cries of revolt against the Moloch and the Anti-Dream Brigade, five minutes before any artificial intelligence will decide to write the book it thinks you want or have to read.

On Buddhas’ Head

Two 19-year-olds set off for India, crossing the sclerotic Europe of the post-1968 era. They discover the Muslim world: Iran without the Ayatollahs, Afghanistan without the Taliban, and tribes in Pakistan that do not want to belong to Pakistan. They float through the mountains of the Hindu Kush, immerse themselves in the madness of Herat and Kabul, implode on the head of the Buddha of Bamiyan, and fall into ecstasy beneath the fantastic lakes of Band-e Amir before settling down to dream in the ruins of the Greek-Buddhist universe of Gandhara in the Pakistani “tribal area” of the Swat Valley.

An initiatory, political, poetic, and spiritual journey. A crazy adventure full of unforgettable images and extreme sensations.

A fascinating road movie of the 70s!.
