50 Years later<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Personal and political assessment, between melancholy and hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After returning from Asia in 1972, I deserted the French army<\/strong>, was sentenced in absentia<\/em> to one year in prison, and moved to Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(A sentence that was overturned by the 1981 amnesty.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My friend Pierre led a life as a farmer and then as a wine importer in Switzerland, before Korsakoff’s syndrome (caused by alcohol and possibly hashish) destroyed his memory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I gave him a photo album of our trip, hoping that these images, revisited daily in a loop, would bring him \u201cmomentary pleasures\u201d in the midst of his final \u201cbad trip.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faced with a world that is losing its way<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All that remains is the hope<\/p>\n\n\n\n

that women will become the future of men.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So let’s continue to support non-violent struggles,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

especially those led by women around the world,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

such as Afghan, Iranian, Belarusian, Ugandan, and other women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
